Worlds of Lemish Subsector

Lemish (Corridor 1808)

The starport and industrial capacity of Lemish were severely damaged by Vargr raids during the Rebellion. The planetary governor fervently declared his unwillingness to pay protection money to Vargr corsairs. In retaliation, the Vargr mustered a fleet and sacked the planet, specifically concentrating their attacks on the port and manufacturing complexes. The shipyards were totally destroyed, and the other port facilities were barely functional after the attack. Rebuilding efforts never could effectively get under way with the chaos of the war making it difficult to get much-needed supplies. The onset of the Collapse and subsequent waves of Vampire attacks diminished the population even further and set the Lemishans back even further. The current population survives in the ruins of the old cities and maintains the remnant technology as best they can. -by CG based on TD18 and MTJ2

Ighoth (Corridor 1904)

The population of Ighoth numbered in the tens of thousands until 1117. In that year, a mysterious sublight vessel entered the system at high speed, apparently on automatic pilot. Vargr system defense boats boarded the giant derelict, found no cause for alarm, and brought it back to Ighoth. Within a week, contact with Ighoth ceased. Ships jumping into the system encountered orbiting quarantine buoys prohibiting landing. Radio communications went unanswered. EMS scans of the world's surface revealed little or no activity. The logical assumption was that the derelict had carried some sort of virus which evaded local decontamination procedures and wiped out the planet's inhabitants. Shortly thereafter, Imperial authorities declared the Ighoth system off limits for fear of spreading whatever virulent epidemic wiped out the local Vargr. -by CG based on TD18

Specti (Corridor 2009)

Specti's atmosphere is 95% nitrogen and 4% carbon dioxide with the rest a mix of noble gasses. Seas of ammonium hydroxide can be found at polar latitudes, but these will vary in size with the seasons. There is no life on the planet.

The asteroid belts in the system are primarily carbonaceous and thus of little commercial value to belters. Since there are no starport services available, there is little incentive to spend time investigating them to make sure.

The world is privately owned and is said to be the site of scientific research in the field of terraforming. What became of this group when the corsairs arrived is unknown.

Dianah (Corridor 2010)

Dianah is showing signs of lengthening days (38.5 hours) and drying climate (41% hydrographics), indicative of a world that will eventually become tidelocked. But for now, it remains a viable agricultural world. No large agricorps have laid claim to it though. Demand is weak in this region of Corridor as population density is low.

The farming community is independent and congenial. It has no central government and no real law level. Disputes are settled by online voting after each side makes its case. Violence is rare.

When corsairs came calling, the citizens agreed to accept them as their de facto rulers provided that they took a mercantile approach instead of solely relying on oppression. Looking for a world to call home and taking a liking to the citizens' libertarian-ish attitudes, the corsairs agreed. They bought food from the local farmers and sold them the spoils of piracy, eventually asking the natives what they needed and then targeting vessels and worlds that had it.

When the Corsair Alliance was formed, Dianah was among the first to sign up. -by DED

Ginning (Corridor 2108)

Ginning was a candidate for terraforming in the early days of the Third Imperium. Its mass was sufficient to boost its atmosphere, the system's Oort Cloud contained enough frozen volatiles to properly hydrate it, and the G2 V primary could've been a cousin of Sol. Unfortunately, the threat of Vargr invading the sector deemed the investment unwise. To some, terraforming Ginning would only make it a more desirable target. By the time the Vargr Campaigns ended, Corridor's role as a transit corridor to the spinward frontier was solidified, leaving Ginning as an inhospitable and barren world.

Ginning remained a low profile world for centuries. Its economy was driven by the mineralogical wealth derived from mining its two asteroid belts, and that was enough to invest in an A-class starport and shipyard. The Imperial Navy took notice and chose Ginning as the site for a naval base.

The law level of the world has always been very high. The harsh climate forced severe controls over the use of water and even the air inside facilities. After the Navy moved in, security tightened further. It is believed that the Navy used Ginning as the site to plan various operations during the Frontier Wars.

After Corridor fell to the Vargr, the various factions carved up the coreward half of the sector. A splinter group calling itself the Corsair Alliance lay claim to several worlds in the rimward third of the Lemish Subsector and made Ginning its capital. Now, no one is allowed dirtside without explicit permission of the government. The starport remains open, but security remains tight. Rumor has it that the sector duke, Criston Rehman, is holed up here after surviving an attempted assassination and continues to fight the invading Vargr states. -by DED and MTJ#2

Voegrr (Corridor 2209)

Voegrr has been a Vargr world for some time, though it is not advertised as such. It was unoccupied for decades as there's a mite that enjoys the epidermis of many creatures, particularly Humans, resulting in a severe eczema reaction. Oddly enough, Vargr and other creatures covered in fur do not suffer the same fate. It is believed that the mites sense body heat and navigate to it. As fur is a great insulator, the Vargr are mostly invisible to the mite. The few that do find them prove to be a minor nuisance. As Voegrr's average temperature is -21.6°C, fur-laden creatures have another advantage.

Given the mite and the cold, the Third Imperium was all too happy to give the world to Vargr that were willing to move past raiding and settle down to a more productive way of life. Still, the place wasn't granted full autonomy as prejudice precluded trust. The world always had to run policy decisions past a governor appointed by Lemish.

During the war, the destruction of Lemish took the Vargr on Voegrr off of the proverbial leash, but rather than revert to the feral monsters their critics assumed that they were, they offered some corsairs another path. It would prove to be the foundation for what became the independent minded Corsair Alliance. -by DED

Treedisk (Corridor 2409)

Treedisk is a cold world (avg. temp. -6.7°C) with almost no water (2%) and a very thin atmosphere (0.4 atm). On top of that, the atmosphere has a tainted rating due to dust storms which plague this swiftly spinning planet—a year is only 52 standard days long.

The world is believed to have originated elsewhere as astrophysicists insist that it should be tidelocked, yet the planet has a rotation of 27 hours. It is theorized that a close encounter with a more massive planet sent it spiraling inward where it fell into orbit with the host star at its present location.

The world, and the system that it resides in, offers very little in resources worth exploiting. It primarily serves as a waystation for those travelers making their way to and from the Domain of Deneb. There are better places to refuel and refurbish life support, but the Vargr incursion has made Treedisk one of the safer places due to its location.

The world gets its name from an enigmatic lifeform. It resembles a squat tree, growing no more than a meter from the surface near underground water sources. Instead of leaves, it grows a solid disk wherein photosynthesis occurs. Specimens grow up to ten meters in diameter with extra trunks growing down to the ground to provide structural support.

A scout base was established to form a link in the chain for Imperial communications across the sector. A naval base was constructed in 1110 in anticipation of future incursions into the sector. The fleet at the naval base was withdrawn in compliance with Lucan's request. -by DED
