After the breakfast meeting Slade logs into the local InfoNet to see if he can
track any info on the transponder situation. He discovers a "Sasidraad's", which
he's never heard of. He's not too keen about some local monkeys working on his
ship. He decides to go to the bridge to talk to Gvarokh.
Slade pipes up as the door closes "Hay Gvarokh."
Gvarokh acknowledges him, "Slade."
"We have to resolve the transponder issue. There's only one independent repair
shop, Sasidraad's, there's the port authority, and the naval yard. The point is
to keep the old transponder but that's not allowed for in the regs. We'll have
to grease some palms. Who do you think we should go to, and can you get somebody
to help me who won't blurt out the whole thing and blow it? I've never been
good at the wink-wink-nudge-nudge game."
Gvarokh replies decisively, "Grab Lakir. He doesn't have any assignments at the
moment, so this would be perfect for him." Gvarokh grins, as this is why Lakir
doesn't have any assignements. "And when Vincent is done with the resupply and
refuel, you can always take him, too."
Slade is pleased, "I'll go chase Lakir and Vincent down. Thanks Gvarokh."
Slade leaves the bridge and heads to engineering. He gets as far as the
starboard where he runs into Vincent. Vincent explains that he's still waiting
for the refueling guy. He informs Slade that Lakir left the ship already.
Slade decides to track him down.

After the airlock on the station side closes, Lakir retracts the docking collar
and heads down into the station proper. The station looks well maintained as
he walks the berthing arm. As he reaches the station ring, he sees a sign that
points to the administrative section of the station. While there seems to be no
way to progress to his left there are numerous paths to his right and a couple
of corridors that lead in the direction of the sign.
Lakir attempts to link his PDA to the station's system. He gets the option of
logging into the network or using the portal provided. Not having any user ID he
uses the portal where he can access a map and information about the place.
Turning up at the central parade after a couple of minutes he sees the
commercial heart of the station. Brokerage firms, grocers, the two bars, the
restaurants and a few other small shops and a couple of market stools.
There are a number of people going about their morning business, mainly to and
from the shops. Security are marines in normal uniforms wearing only side arms
and nearly all the people you see aren't visibly carrying. There are a couple of
spacers milling about, and one tries to open the door to the Marash bar
only to find that it won't open. He rattles the handle a little until his
companion points to a sign at the side of the door.
Lakir decides to run a quick recon of the surrounding area, looking for
alternate exits and routes to and from the bar.
While there may be exits around the back of the shops they aren't marked
on the map he has. Garirikgagra, the restaurant he's looking for, is up
the street a little on the level above.
On his way to Garirikgagra, Lakir checks the sign out as he walks by. Same drill
as before, he checks around before trying to enter. The sign that the spacer
pointed to by the door to the Marash bar shows the opening times of the bar and
it says that it doesn't open until the start of the rest period.
Heading up the escalator to the floor above gives him a good view of the street
below. There are less people up here. The shop fronts are very similar to those
on the lower level without any side passages between them. Approaching the bar
door he sees a similar opening times notice, saying much the same thing.
It's at this time that he notices that the two marines that were on the lower
level are now on his level.

Looking through the airlock door, Slade sees that Lakir must have instructed
the docking collar to detach as he went across. Slade taps the controls of the
airlock and the docking collar starts its slow journey across the space between
the ship and the berthing arm. Slade hears a slight sound as the collar
attaches. Once the pressure gauge shows there is air on the other side, Slade
opens the airlock and goes through.
After the airlock on the station side closes, Slade retracts the docking collar
and heads down into the station proper. As Slade walks the berthing arm, he

What catches his eye is a security team, consisting of a pair of marines in

Character: Lakir
Location: Gishinridu Highport

Lakir, ever paranoid (You would be too if you lived my life!), begins to
suspect the worst. He's got eight hours until the bar opens which means he can't
duck inside. Looking around he sees that both the restaurants are on the lower
level, the closest is Nasashurishid. As he starts heading that way he
notices a human who has just entered the commercial area who looks a lot like
Slade. Before he can be sure, the two marines, both humans, approach him.
One of them smiles at you and says, "Good morning. Are you just in?"
Lakir thinks fast, "Indeed. Just in on the Miishakaal, with a load for
your naval factor. I've just finished the unload, and was hoping to find an
establishment to slake the ol' thirst. It would appear I've blown my time
appreciation, however. Could you gentlemen direct me to the nearest 'open'
watering hole?"
The marine who spoke replies, "The Miishakaal? Don't recall hearing of
that ship before."
The second marine looks at his hand comp and types on the display pad.
The first marine continues, "As for watering holes, you won't find any that
will serve you alcohol until rest. In fact Garirikgagra and Marash
won't open until then."
The second marine (the silent one) nods.
The first marine then asks "Do you have any ID?"
"Crap. So, any place I can get some good coffee? Here's the ID." Lakir passes
over his ID card.
The talkative marine takes the ID and passes it to his partner, who scans it in
his hand comp.
"Aanamrumuralu does a good coffee, but Nasashurishid does a better
all round breakfast, in my opinion anyway and you may find more of a crowd in
Nasashurishid given the time of day."
The second marine hands Lakir back his ID and nods again at the first who
continues, "Anyway thanks for your time and have a good stay."
"Thank you," Lakir says and turns around to let out a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile Slade has decided to sit back for half a minute and act casual. Watch
things play out.
The two marines approach Lakir and one seems to talk with him while the other
concentrates on his hand computer. Slade doesn't see the complete exchange or
hear anything but there doesn't seem to be any trouble.
Lakir looks at his PDA for a second before walking away from the pair and starts
heading down from the upper level towards Slade. The marines watch him for a
minute before scanning the upper and lower levels.
Slade meets Lakir just as he reaches the lower level, with the restaurant
Nasashurishid 20 meters further down the 'street'.
Lakir moves slightly under the star and removes his Gauss pistol rig and stuffs
the assembly into the rear carrying pocket on his utility vest.
A quick look around Nasashurishid shows much the same as the other shop fronts.
There are no side alleys or streets, just continuous store fronts. Inside
through the glass you can see a few spacers eating breakfast and drinking.
Slade looks around to make sure nobody's listening. "Hey, Lakir, the boss told
me to ask you something. We have to get that transponder swapped. Want to keep
the old one. That's not standard practice, if you know what I mean. There's one
indy repair shop, there's the local yard, and then there's the naval yard. Can
you help me pick one and get it straight with them what we want without pissing
anybody off? It will involve some slight monetary recompense, if you know what
I mean again. And I don't do subtlety too good."
Lakir replies, "Yeah...no prob. We'll pop in here and see what the word
around the brekkie table is, in regards to your chop shop op."
Slade asks, "And what the heck were those guys bugging you about? Carrying the
piece unconcealed?"
"The boyzz was just checking the ID, seeing as how I seem to be the only one on
the street with a piece. Didn't do the proper leg work before leaving the ship."
He sighs, "Must be gettin old."
